We are very excited to announce that Sacred Heart School is going Google. So, what does that mean?  Well, it means a few things for our teachers, students and parents….

  • Email: Our email system will now be on Gmail.  Teachers will have all of the benefits of using Gmail with our shsav.org accounts.
  • Classroom: Google Classroom lets teachers create and organize assignments, provide feedback and easily communicate with their classes.  If a student is home sick they can log into Google to find out what they have missed!
  • Drive: Files can be shared and edited by anyone invited.


Computer Classes may involve the following:

• Kindergarten through Grade 2 -- students learns basic skills to reinforce reading, writing, math and logic lessons in conjunction with Archdiocesan Standards.
• Grades 3 through 5 are trained in keyboarding. They receive training in word processing, spreadsheets, and publishing, using Google Suite, and keyboarding software.
• Grades 6 and 7 continue with more difficult projects using Google Suite's Sheets, spreadsheets, Docs, Slides, and Drawings. Research is primary along with usage of citation material and self-evaluation.
• 8th grade is charged with writing and publishing the school newspaper and yearbook. They decide on the subject matter and design of the school’s yearbook.

Classroom instruction may involve:

• California Streaming for electronically-based classroom instruction is available for the teachers to integrate into their lesson plans.
• Mimio electronic whiteboard systems are available for curriculum integration In grades 4-8 and in the math classes located in the Annex buildings.
• Mimio and Elmo document cameras are available as an aide to the teacher to share pictures and other information easily to the entire classroom. These cameras are available in classroom 4-8.
• Other programs that are used are Accelerated Reader, Accelerated Math, religious archaeological sites, and online encyclopedias.


As additional funds become available, additional equipment may be added to the classrooms.

Parents:

• Have the ability to monitor their child’s grades using Gradelink.
• May use email to schedule appointments with their child’s teacher.
